my name is Christian and I am an Associate Professor (W2TTW3) holding the Chair of Digital Methods and their Application in the Humanities, Saarland University, Germany.

My research revolves around the application of information-theoretic methods to measure the diversity of human languages, and compare them to other semiotic systems. I am currently PI of the ERC Starting Grant "The Evolution of Visual Information Encoding" (EVINE). We investigate intentional signs carved onto surfaces of mobile artifacts in the stone age.

Interests: historical language change, language evolution, quantitative typology, computational linguistics, corpus linguistics
